San Diego is facing a challenge that impacts all community members – renters, homeowners, business owners, first-time buyers, everyone struggling to find and keep a place to call home. How can designers, problem solvers, and advocates for housing bring about positive, impactful, and lasting change to strengthen San Diego’s future communities?
Submit your pitch for the 2024 Design for San Diego (D4SD) Challenge by Friday Oct 25th to showcase your design ideas at the World Design Policy Conference on Nov 12-13.
ABOUT D4SD 2024
Design for San Diego (D4SD) is a civic design challenge aimed at inspiring and supporting collective innovation on this region’s most challenging issues. This year, D4SD tackles one of the most pressing issues of our region – housing insecurity and homelessness.
Housing is a complex issue. Positive, long-term, and impactful change requires our community to think holistically to make San Diego equitable and affordable for everyone. D4SD invites individuals or teams to submit innovative proposals for new services, products, policies, and urban designs that could make a difference in key challenge areas: Health, Awareness, Upward Mobility, and Placemaking.
GET INVOLVED
This Fall 2024, D4SD invites anyone and everyone with an interest in improving the housing experience in the San Diego-Tijuana region to submit your ideas. Start now by exploring the challenge themes. Attend an upcoming workshop to learn more and meet collaborators. Submit your proposal for a new policy, service, product, or urban design by Friday, October 25, 2024. Teams will showcase their proposals at the World Design Policy Conference on November 12, 2024 for a chance to talk with civic organizations and get traction on your idea!

REQUEST A LOCAL DESIGN WORKSHOP
If your organization in the San Diego or Tijuana region would like to to participate in D4SD 2024, you can request to have the D4SD team facilitate a design workshop at your classroom, workplace, or gathering. Workshops can only be requested during the open submission period until Oct 24, 2024. If interested, please contact us at team@d4sd.org.
